Rhythm, Repetition, Pattern

I made five new brooches for a selling exhibition calledRhythm, Repetition, Pattern at Pool House Gallery. The exhibition ran alongside Fresh Air Sculpture in the beautiful grounds of The Old Rectory, Quenington (5th - 26th June). This was a completely new body of work, developed over a number of weeks. I started with some of my favourite shapes, overlapped, extended and multiplied them. I played with the different shapes and materials until I had a final collection of five which worked together. Here are a few images from this process:

Initial sketch and card shape experiments

More card models and trying small pieces of laminate as I work on the composition

Laying out pink and red laminates on different heights of wood ready for glueing

Further refining of the shapes with larger pieces of laminate

The multi height red and pink shape, sanded and with inlaid silver dot additions.

The largest silver brooch back in progress

The same brooch back a bit further along. Still needs some cleaning up.

Three other brooches and their brooch backs in progress.

The dark green brooch in progress, lots of sanding back of the pink resin.

Another brooch components coming together.

Small handmade oxidised pins lined up ready for use

Two brooches side by side, not finished but getting there.
